Lauréat du premier Concours International de Lutherie VIOLA'S 2009
Joël Klépal
Né en 1981 à Senlis, il fait très tôt ses études à l’Ecole de Lutherie de Mirecourt où il obtient le Diplôme des Métiers d’Art en 2001. Il travaille actuellement à Caen dans l’atelier de Jean-Yves Tanguy où il mène parallèlement une activité de restaurateur et de fabricant.
Il s’intéresse particulièrement à l’étude des instruments anciens, à leurs méthodes de fabrication ainsi qu’au montage ancien ce qui le conduit à voyager a travers les musées et collections privées (Musée de la musique de Paris, Royal Academy of Music-London, Ashmoleam Museum-Oxford, Museo Civico-Crémone… etc).
Il obtient en 2004 pour son violon, le prestigieux 1er prix de la ville de Paris au concours International de lutherie Etienne Vatelot .
Ses instruments peuvent se présenter en montage baroque, classique ou moderne, mais toujours documenté par de solides recherches historiques et musicologiques.
Membre de l’ALADI, il participe aux rassemblements et rencontres de luthiers. Il est régulièrement invité à des stages internationaux de fabrication et participe depuis peu à des jurys d’examens de lutherie.

Joël Klépal
Born in 1981 Joël Klepal received an early training at the school of violin making in Mirecourt and joined the workshop of Jean-Yves Tanguy in Caen in 2001. Regularly approached for the restoration and maintenance of ancient instruments, he is more and more involved in the making of instruments.
A craftsman very sensitive to the harmony and visual and sound nobleness coming out of the instruments made by Stradivarius, Guarnerius, Amati or Goffriler, he keeps basing his choices on permanent documentary research when he makes his own instruments. Thus he regularly visits museums or private collections to take photographs and make sketches or plaster casts.
In 2004 he wins the Gold medal for his violin in the Etienne Vatelot international violin making competition.
His instruments display an ancient or new appearance in modern, classical or baroque fitting,
Member of ALADFI, he takes part of violin maker meeting. He is regularly invited in international workshop and is a jury’s member in the violin making school.
